Driver Safety Monitoring (DSM) Cameras Explained
Improve driver safety and behaviour with a Driver Safety Monitoring Camera or ‘DSM’. These tracking cameras are proven to improve driver concentration and provide all road users with a safer and less stressful journey.
How do they work?
- The camera detects and calculates head position, face direction, plus eye and mouth opening/closing.
- The driver is notified with a sound alert when a warning condition is detected.
- The DSM Camera can recognise and store 200 driver IDs and identify which driver is on board.
- Data is sent to a dedicated server for timely monitoring and further analysis. The fleet owner can receive photo evidence for future investigation.
What kind of warning event triggers the DSM?
- Drowsiness
If the driver closes their eyes for a certain period, and again within 30 seconds. - Yawning
When the driver yawns for 3 seconds twice within 1 minute. - Distracted
If the driver remains distracted for a certain period or looks outside of the warning range. - Smoking
When the driver smokes for a certain period. - Using a Phone
When the driver talks over the phone for a certain period (e.g. every 30 seconds) - No Seat Belt
When the driver doesn’t fasten their seat belt over 10km/h.
