Driver Safety Monitoring (DSM) Cameras Explained

Driver Safety Monitoring Camera DSM

Improve driver safety and behaviour with a Driver Safety Monitoring Camera or ‘DSM’. These tracking cameras are proven to improve driver concentration and provide all road users with a safer and less stressful journey.

How do they work?
  • The camera detects and calculates head position, face direction, plus eye and mouth opening/closing.
  • The driver is notified with a sound alert when a warning condition is detected.
  • The DSM Camera can recognise and store 200 driver IDs and identify which driver is on board.
  • Data is sent to a dedicated server for timely monitoring and further analysis. The fleet owner can receive photo evidence for future investigation.

What kind of warning event triggers the DSM?
  • Drowsiness
If the driver closes their eyes for a certain period, and again within 30 seconds.
  • Yawning
When the driver yawns for 3 seconds twice within 1 minute.
  • Distracted
If the driver remains distracted for a certain period or looks outside of the warning range.
  • Smoking
When the driver smokes for a certain period.
  • Using a Phone
When the driver talks over the phone for a certain period (e.g. every 30 seconds)
  • No Seat Belt
When the driver doesn’t fasten their seat belt over 10km/h.

DSM Additional Features
  1. Accident Prevention
If a warning event is detected, the DSM Camera can immediately inform the driver.
  2. Voice Recording
A pre-recorded message can auto-play if one of the warning events is detected.
  3. Timestamped Data
Overlay text with date and time will be visible on the event pictures.
  4. Data Records
Event images will be automatically transferred to your server when an event is detected.
  5. Images On Demand
We can configure periodic photo sending and photos can also be requested on demand.
  6. Additional Images
We can configure additional triggers that will send pictures, such as crash, towing, idling, unplug, bad driver behaviour and geofence crossing.
  7. Optimum Storage
The device comes with a MicroSD card 64GB (max 128GB). The 64GB option stores approx. 24 hours of recordings.
  8. Full Solution
Camera is connected to your main RentalMatics tracking device. All information to your server will be sent via this main tracking device.
